Para la mayor parte de los voluntarios norteamericanos que integraron las filas de la Brigada Abraham Lincoln, la participación en la Guerra Civil Española no fue su primer acto comprometido ni sería el último. En este ensayo se estudian dos paradigmas de ese compromiso sin fin de los brigadistas: el activismo político y social, encarnado en Abe Osher off; y el activismo artístico, representado por Dutch Schultz.

For the majority of the 2800 American volunceers who made up che Abraham Lincoln Brigade, their participacion in the Spanish Civil War was neither their first act of political commitment, nor would it be their Jase. Spurred by the dire conditions caused by the Depression, they came to Spain already experienced in the union movement and advocacy for the unemployed, social security and Jefe wing social and political agitation. This essay examines two distinct paradigms of the unending commitment of the brigadistas: social and political activism, in the case of Abe Osheroff; and activism from the arts, represented by Dutch Schultz.
