    La capella de Santa Maria dels Sastres va viure una profunda remodelació durant la segona meitat del segle xiv. Va constituir una fita majúscula en el gòtic català i un cas molt especial dins la catedral de Tarragona, ja que gairebé es va arribar a equiparar amb l’altar major per centralitat litúrgica i sumptuositat (es dedueix que va ser molt poderosa econòmicament). En un espai aparentment homogeni conviuen dos llenguatges formals del gòtic: un de consuet i radiant i un altre de conopial i flamíger. Això porta a assegurar un canvi de plantejament i una intervenció de diferents promotors i artífexs, en què se sobreentenen personalitats artístiques i poderosos clients coneixedors de les novetats artístiques. A més, el gòtic flamíger que singularitza la capella dels Sastres resulta innovador (i, alhora, moderat), precoç i sense repercussió a posteriori.

    L’objectiu d’aquesta comunicació és presentar l’estat de la qüestió dels estudis sobre aquesta capella i analitzar com la historiografia ha abordat la documentació conservada i a quines conclusions ha arribat, valent-se també de la informació que ofereix l’anàlisi directa.

    The chapel of Santa Maria or dels Sastres was profoundly renovated in the second half of the fourteenth century, becoming a major achievement in the Catalan Gothic tradition and a very special case within the cathedral of Tarragona, where it came to rival the main altar for liturgical importance and sumptuousness, thus indicating that it was economically very powerful. At first sight the space seems homogeneous, but two formal languages of Gothic coexist in it: one of them is radiant and the other is ogee and flamboyant. This indicates a change of plan and an intervention by different patrons and artists who were clearly familiar with the artistic innovations of the time. Furthermore, the Flamboyant Gothic that singles out the Chapel dels Sastres is at once innovative and moderate, an early development that had few subsequent repercussions.

    The objective of this article is to examine the literature concerning this chapel and to analyze how historiography has approached the surviving documentation and which conclusions have been arrived at, whilst also making use of the information offered by direct analysis.
