  • Resumen
    • The specials clays, sepiolite and attapulglte, are some of the most developed minerals on the last years.

Theirs principal uses are: pet litters, oil and grease absorbents, pesticides and related products, fertilisers, fillers, extenders and binders, drilling muds, Portland concrete, filters, clarifying and decolourising mineral oils, animal fee additive, plastics, water treatment, sealers, etc.

The World production of these minerals is around 4 Mt and the bigger producers are USA (70%) and Spain (24%), with a national production of 1.1 Mt. The economic value of Spanish sepiolite production is 100 M€ and 4M€ for the attapulgite production.

We expose the presentí moment of this mineral sector and, particularly, on the Ebro and Duero Basin.

The deposits of Calatayud Basin (Mara) and Bercimuel-Maderuelo are studied in this paper
