    A partir del análisis de las voces del metal en mapudungun, este artículo se aproxima al trabajo en metales de la cultura mapuche durante el período prehispánico a partir del contraste entre los antecedentes lingüísticos y arqueológicos. El texto aborda los datos disponibles para los términos de la lengua mapuche que designan el oro, la plata, el cobre, el plomo y el estaño. El método de investigación empleado es el estudio de las constelaciones semióticas de las voces, es decir, de las series de relaciones de significación que se articulan en torno a estas unidades de sentido, lo que permite su interpretación y uso. Ello considera un análisis metalingüístico, translingüístico y supralingüístico o contextual de los términos, que incluye sus usos sociales y la documentación desde la arqueología. Sobre la base de estos antecedentes se argumenta sobre la antigüedad, las relaciones transculturales de las voces y la importancia de las distintas materialidades para el trabajo en metales en la cultura mapuche prehispánica.

    From the analysis of words naming metals in Mapudungun, this paper approaches the work in metals of the Mapuche culture during the Pre-Hispanic period, contrasting linguistic and archaeological backgrounds. The text deals with the data available for the linguistic terms of Mapuche language that designate gold, silver, copper, lead and tin. The research method used is the study of the semiotic constellations of words, that is, series of relationships of meaning that are articulated around these units of sense-making, allowing their interpretation and use. This considers a metalinguistic, cross-linguistic and supralinguistic or contextual analysis of the terms, including the study of their social uses and the documentation from archaeology. On the basis of these antecedents, it is argued about the antiquity, transcultural relations of the terms and the importance of the different materialness for the work in metals in the Pre-Hispanic Mapuche culture.
