El burlador burlado, una propuesta para entender el final de «La verdad sospechosa»

    The end of La verdad sospechosa has been issue of controversy among the critics, especially those of the xixth century. In that critics, it has been tried to see in the ending of the play from a situation of poetic justice to a rant against lies. The way we understand the ending affects how we interpret the entire play. We propose an interpretation of the end based on the conventions of the genre of the play itself, and on the need of give pleasure to the public, which allows to understand the comicality of the ending and the figure of don García as a «burlador burlado», cheated by the true itself

    El final de La verdad sospechosa ha sido objeto de debate entre la crítica, especialmente aquella del siglo XIX. En él se ha pretendido ver desde una situación de justicia poética, hasta una diatriba moralizante en contra de la mentira. La forma en que entendamos el final incide en cómo interpretamos la obra entera. Proponemos una interpretación del final desde las convenciones de género de la obra misma y desde la necesidad de dar gusto al público, que permiten entender la comicidad del final y la figura de don García como un «burlador burlado», engañado por la misma verdad.
