Ya desde los primeros comentaristas alejandrinos, el problema de la diferenciación entre el Sócrates histórico y el héroe filosófico de los diálogos platónicos fue de primera importancia tanto para los historiadores de la antigüedad como para los historiadores de la filosofía. Este trabajo busca dar una breve cuenta de las diferentes posiciones que han surgido al respecto en el seno de la filología moderna, situando al Sócrates histórico en el contexto de la polis ateniense durante los complejos años de su vida (470-399 a.C.).

Already from the first Alexandrian scholars, the problem of the differentiation between the historical Socrates and the philosophical hero of the Platonic dialogues was of first importance both for the historians of antiquity and for the historians of philosophy. This work seeks to give a brief account of the different positions that have arisen in this regard within modern philology, placing the historical Socrates in the context of the Athenian polis during the complex years of his life (470-399 B.C.).
