    El turismo idiomático es una tipología poco explorada y un interesante campo de estudio dada su idiosincrasia. A pesar de que el intercambio cultural asociado a esta actividad turística aporta beneficios significativos para todos los actores involucrados, también presenta multitud de dificultades que deben tomarse en consideración y gestionarse apropiadamente. El objetivo general del proyecto que aquí se presenta ha sido investigar cómo se produce la integración de los turistas idiomáticos en la comunidad local de Barcelona (España). Con esta finalidad, se han identificado las dificultades que interfieren en dicha inmersión para poder ofrecer medidas que permitan superarlas en el futuro. La información se ha obtenido directamente de proveedores de turismo idiomático y de las experiencias vividas por las propias investigadoras mediante un enfoque cualitativo y a través de tres técnicas: entrevistas en profundidad, observación participante y búsqueda telemática. Tras el análisis de los datos se ha diseñado un plan de acciones con propuestas prácticas para mejorar la integración de los estudiantes internacionales. Futuras líneas de investigación podrían centrarse en la aplicación de dichas medidas y analizar si finalmente las propuestas realizadas alcanzan los resultados esperados.

    Language tourism has been scarcely explored and constitutes an interesting field of study due to its idiosyncrasy. Even though the cultural exchange associated to this tourist activity provides significant gains to all the stakeholders involved, it also entails many difficulties which must be taken into consideration and managed properly. The general objective of the project reported in this article has been to investigate how language tourists’ integration in the local community occurs in Barcelona (Spain). Bearing this aim in mind, the difficulties that interfere with such immersion have been identified in order so as to offer measures that can contribute to overcome them in the future. Three research techniques have been used following a qualitative approach to obtain information from language tourism providers and the researchers’ own experiences: in-depth interviews, participant observation and online search. After the data analysis, an action plan has been designed with practical proposals in order to enhance the international students’ integration. Further research could focus on the application of such measures and analyse if the proposals eventually achieve the expected results.
