    El presente artículo examina de manera histórica las políticas y programas que han contribuido a desarrollar la educación bilingüe en los Estados Unidos. Partiendo de la interpretación que se hace en los Estados Unidos sobre la educación bilingüe, este estudio examina cada uno de los programas educativos que se han ido implementando en el país desde el siglo XX, su fundamentación pedagógica y la evaluación crítica de sus resultados. El artículo termina con un análisis de las posibles lecturas y lecciones que el caso norteamericano puede tener para otros contextos.

    The present paper engages in a historical analysis and interpretation of the policies that have contributed to develop bilingual education in the United States. Departing from the U.S. interpretation of bilingual education, this study examines each of the educational programs that have been implemented in the country since the twentieth century, its pedagogical underpinnings, and the critical evaluation of its outcomes. The paper concludes with an analysis of potential interpretations and lessons that the US case may have for other contexts.
