La realización de un atentado nuclear de grandes proporciones supondría un cambio de difícil estimación en la situación geoestratégica. Existen diversos tipos de terrorismo nuclear con muy diferentes métodos para llevarlos a cabo y consecuencias, que hay que entender en profundidad para la adopción adecuada de medidas para hacerlo frente. El carácter técnico del problema exige una colaboración multidisciplinar tanto en el análisis del fenómeno como en el diseño de medidas de seguridad. La comunidad de inteligencia tiene un importante papel, si bien debe ajustar su trabajo a las especiales características de este tipo de terrorismo. Se están tomando muchas medidas y estableciendo iniciativas para hacer frente al terrorismo nuclear tanto en la Comunidad Internacional como en España, si bien la dirección o coordinación de las mismas en nuestro país no está perfectamente definida; pudiéndose mejorar la efectividad del sistema con una adecuada arquitectura de seguridad frente al terrorismo nuclear.

A nuclear terrorist attack that cause severe consequences would mean a difficult-to-estimate change in the geostrategic situation. There are different types of nuclear terrorism which must be fully understood in order to take proper actions to protect against them. The technical aspect of this problem makes necessary the collaboration of several disciplines, both in the analysis of the phenomena and in the design of security measures. The duty of the intelligence community is very significant, although it should be tailored to the especial characteristics of this terrorism. To some extent, a lot of effective actions are being taken; however the direction and coordination of these measures are not very well defined in Spain. The whole effectiveness of the system can be improved if right security architecture is established.
