We present some econometric models of agrarian and non agrarian employment in OECD countries, and analyse the evolution of employment in European Union and the USA and other areas in the period 1960-2000. Data show that wages are lower in EU than in the USA and in spite of that rates of employment are lower. Our main conclusion is that EU policies should be more focused to improve higher wages and rates of employment like in the USA.
