    Claudio Guillén fue discípulo y colega de Vicente Llorens en la universidad de Princeton. Ambos compartieron la experiencia del exilio, aunque de forma muy distinta. Llorens pertenecía a la primera generación del exilio republicano español de 1939 y Guillén a la segunda, la de los “diaspóricos”, que se formaron fuera de España, en un contexto bicultural y bilingüe. La reflexión crítica de Guillén sobre el exilio debe mucho al magisterio de Llorens, no sólo por las líneas temáticas planteadas, sino también por la definición de una precisa idea de crítica, en la que la experiencia intelectual y la trayectoria personal son inseparables.

    Claudio Guillén was a disciple and a colleague of Vicente Llorens at the University of Princeton. Both shared the experience of exile, though in a very different way. Llorens belonged to the first generation of the Spanish Republican exile of 1939, while Guillén belonged to the second one, called “diasporic” generation, whose members grew up outside of Spain, in a bicultural and bilingual context. Guillén’s critical reflection on exile was greatly influenced by Llorens, not only for the developed thematic lines, but also for the definition of a specific idea of criticism, in which the intellectual experience cannot be distinguished from the personal one.
