  El 15 de noviembre de 2012, el Partido Comunista de China completó su traspaso más importante de poder en más de seis décadas de gobierno. El 18º Congreso Nacional del Partido culminó cuando se dio a conocer una nueva dirección encabezada por Xi Jimping, el hijo de un líder revolucionario y reformador económico, que se enfrentará a la tarea de dirigir China por la senda de un crecimiento más sostenible y la gestión geopolítica del país como potencia mundial.

  Después de una votación de confirmación por el nuevo Comité Central del partido, el nuevo presidente de 59 años, acompañado por otras seis personalidades del partido formará el Comité Permanente del Buró Político, el grupo de élite que toma las decisiones cruciales sobre la economía, la defensa, la política exterior y todos los temas fundamentales para el gigante chino.

  El presidente saliente, Hu Jintao, de 69 años, también entregó el cargo de presidente del comité militar central. La primera vez desde 1976 que un líder chino asume el cargo de jefe del partido y el ejército al mismo tiempo. Eso le da al nuevo líder una base sólida desde la cual consolidar su poder.

  In November 15th 2012, China’s Communist Party completed its most important transfer of power in more than six decades of rule. The party’s 18th National Congress culminated when it unveiled a new leadership headed by Xi Jimping, the son of a revolutionary leader and economic reformer, who will face the task of guiding China to a more sustainable model of growth and managing the country’s geopolitical role as a global power.

  After a confirmation vote by the party’s new Central Committee, Mr. Xi, 59, accompanied by six other party officials will form the Politburo Standing Committee, the elite group that makes crucial decisions on the economy, defence, foreign policy and other major issues.

  The departing party chief, Hu Jintao, 69, also turned over the post of civilian chairman of the military to Mr. Xi, which made this transition the first time since 1976 that a Chinese leader had taken office as head of the party and the military at the same time. That gives Mr. Xi a stronger base from which to consolidate his power.
