  En el presente texto se aborda el desarro-llo de la Primera Guerra carlista (1833-1840) en la comarca natural de las Vegas Altas del Gua-diana, un conflicto que afectó directamente a este espacio geográfico ya que en él actuaron diversas guerrillas carlistas. Por otra parte, la causa de don Carlos contó aquí con una serie de simpatías y/o apoyos sociales que fueron seve-ramente reprimidos por las instituciones isabeli-nas, cuyo papel fue clave para decantar la gue-rra a favor de Isabel II. La guerra civil más viru-lenta del siglo XIX, aparte de alterar sustancial-mente el discurrir cotidiano de la comarca, tam-bién trajo consigo consecuencias para su eco-nomía y su población.

  In this paper we analyze the development of First Carlist War (1833-1840) in the natural region of Vegas Altas of the Guadiana, a conflict which directly affected this geographical area, since many carlist commands acted in the place. On the other hand, we will analyzed the reason why don Carlos relied on a series of sympathies and/or social supports that were severely re-pressed by the Isabeline institutions, which played a crucial role in tipping the scale in fa-vour of Isabel II. The most violent civil war in the XIX century, apart from substantially alter-ing the flow of daily life in the region, also brought consequences for its economy and citi-zens.
