  • Stèles does not belong to a specific genre. Segalen wanted to initiate a new literary genre. Eloge et puissance de l'absence is examined from that point of view. There are three levels : rythm, prosody , antithesis, in which alternance can play. Each « Stela » like the Chinese monumental stele has to contain movement and mobility. The poem and the dynamic intensity of its form is the tense meeting point between Orient and Occident. It is also where the poetical Self is to be Alter Ego.
