• Resumen

  • This study situates Burke for a French public in the American context of his work and of his readership. In his analysis, Burke' s « treating of art as an act » shows that his social thought grounds his theory of literature and language : rhetoric dominates aesthetics. Burke' s politics are an ethics and a poetics, as his early debunking of Mein Kampf or his relationship to marxism show. Anti-essentialist and pragmatist, Burke is a « major marginal figure ».
