    En los últimos años la investigación en células madre se ha multiplicado debido a su potencial terapéutico y regenerativo. Los avances científicos en el campo saltan inmediatamente de las revistas científicas a los medios de comunicación ya que la caracterización de los mecanismos moleculares que regulan el comportamiento de estas células es clave para el tratamiento de enfermedades degenerativas, cardiovasculares y del cáncer. Desde la Unidad de Oncología molecular del Ciemat trabajamos para esclarecer el papel de las células madre cancerosas en el desarrollo tumoral y en el estudio de nuevas terapias antitumorales.

    Stem cell research has thrived over the last years due to their therapeutic and regenerative potential. Scientific breakthroughs in the field are immediately translated from the scientific journals to the mass media, which is not surprising as the characterisation of the molecular mechanisms that regulate the biology of stem cells is crucial for the treatment of degenerative and cardiovascular diseases, as well as cancer. In the Molecular Oncology Unit at Ciemat we work to unravel the role of cancer stem cells in tumour development, and to find new antitumor therapies.
