Resumen de Unidad Mixta de Procesos Biotecnológicos para la producción de energía: CIEMAT-IMDEA Energía

Los nuevos desafíos a los que tendrá que enfrentarse la producción de biocarburantes y bioproductos sostenibles en los próximos años hacen necesario abordar nuevas áreas de investigación desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar. Por ello, en 2011, el CIEMAT suscribió un Convenio de Colaboración con el IMDEA-Energía para la Creación de una Unidad Mixta de Procesos Biotecnológicos (UBTP) cuyo objetivo era fortalecer la actividad que se estaba desarrollando en las dos instituciones, aprovechando la complementariedad de su personal e instalaciones y creando sinergias que permitiesen enfrentar los desafíos científicos y tecnológicos en el desarrollo de los biocarburantes avanzados, los bioproductos y los biomateriales.

Because of the new challenges that will have to be overcome in the years to come to produce sustainable biofuels and bioproducts, new areas of research must be addressed from an interdisciplinary perspective. For this reason, in 2011 CIEMAT signed a Collaboration Agreement with IMDEA-Energía for the Creation of a Mixed Biotechnology Processes Unit (UBTP) for the purpose of strengthening the activity being carried out in the two institutions by taking advantage of the complementariness of their personnel and facilities and creating synergies to confront the scientific and technological challenges posed by the development of advanced biofuels, bioproducts and biomaterials.
This article describes the activities and motivations of the CIEMAT-IMDEA Energía Mixed Biotechnology Processes Research Unit.
