  • Resumen
    • The Southern Volcanic Complex II consists mainly o( basalts wilh some lrachybasalls and basa/tic trachyandesites. Its lower sequence is formed by middle a/kaline rocks whilsl in lhe upper one only mildly all ali Hy+OI -normative rocks are found. The variations in composilion are largely expfainec/ by similar C1ystal fractionation mode/s far both the lower and the upper sequence5. The varialion among different basa/tic types is due to different extraction rales of about 10-15¾, olivine being lhe dominanl phase, followed, in a lesser proportion, by clinopyroxene. The differencc bclwccn thc most diffcrcntialcc/ basalts and trachybasa/ts or basa/tic trachyandesiles could be explainec/ by exlraction o( clominanl clinopyroxene wilh pfagioc/ase and Fe-Ti oxides.
