El presente ensayo constituye un esfuerzo exploratorio para trabajar la noción de martirio. La tesis del ensayo es que el martirio es un operador de la imaginación popular y que, por esta razón, se distingue decisivamente del sacrificio. Si el sacrificio constituye el mecanismo que, a partir del poder de muerte sobre un “chivo expiatorio” es capaz de restituir la unidad de la comunidad erigiendo un tótem en particular; el martirio es precisamente la figura que juega a contrapelo y que lo destituye radicalmente. Para ello hemos elegido tres figuras para mostrar el problema: la reflexión de Michel Foucault sobre la sublevación en el Irán de 1979, el trabajo de Achille Mbembe en torno a la soberanía en el contexto colonial y, finalmente, el análisis de un poema de Mahmud Darwish en torno al martirio.

The present essay is an exploratory effort to work the notion of martyrdom.
The thesis of these essay is that martyrdom constitues a popular imagination operator and for that characteristic is something different respect of sacrifice.
If sacrifice constitues the mechanism that from a death power over a “scape goat” is capable to restore the unity of community by a particular totem, martyrdom is precisely the figure that radically destitues sacrifice mechanism.
We have choose three figures to show the problem: the Michel Foucault reflexions on the Iran´s uprising in 1979, the Achille Mbembe´s work over sovereign in the colonial context and, finally a poem of Mahmud Darwish about martydom.
