En 1888 el ingeniero de minas L.M. Vidal obtuvo las que, hasta ahora, son las primeras fotografías de los Pirineos que se conservan realizadas por un español. Son vistas generales de poblaciones, edificios singulares y obras de arte de la provincia de Lleida y de Andorra. Utilizó la fotografía para el registro científico y realizó algunas ascensiones notables que documentó con sus imágenes. Dominó la técnica fotográfica y sus detalladas anotaciones son una valiosa fuente de información. En 1890 confeccionó un álbum fotográfico que regaló a la Comisión del Mapa Geológico de España

In 1888 the mining engineer L.M. Vidal obtained what, so far, are the first photographs of the Pyrenees nowadays preserved made by a Spanish man. They show villages, buildings and artworks of the province of Lleida and Andorra. He also made scientific photography and climbed some remarkable mountains, ascents that were documented in his images. He dominated the photographic technique and his detailed annotations are a valuable source of information. In 1890 he made a luxurious photo album that gave to the Commission for the Geological Map of Spain.
