      Glen Thompson is a research fellow in the History Department at Stellenbosch University (Stellenbosch, South Africa). His PhD dissertation was titled Surfing, Gender and Politics: Identity and Society in the History of South African Surfing Culture in the Twentieth-Century. He has published several journal articles and book chapters on the history of surfing, among other topics. He also runs the website https://writingsurfinghistory.org.za/. In this interview, which took place in Muizenberg (in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa), on January 16, 2019, he speaks about his academic career, sports history in South Africa, research interests, surfing, and sport archives.
