The Olleros de Paredes Rubias succesion was attributed to a transitional marine-continental environment. A detailed study of the lower part of that succesion has shown several subenvironments of the shore-zone (lagoon, backshore, upper shoreface and lower shoreface). The repetitive arrangement of the facies corresponding to these subenvironments defines a cycle of rising and falling relative sea level, with the falling stage producing a forced regression. This cycle can be compared with the transgression part of models proposed for incised valley fills.
