    In this work we will seek to investigate the political positions of the historians of the Brazilian Historical and Geographic Institute who perceived the publications of the Institute's Trimensal Magazine, precisely in the editions of the years that followed the Proclamation of the Republic (1889). To do so, we will take as sources the editions of the Review, with no time lapse covering the years 1888, the year before the Proclamation, to 1891, covering four years of regular publications. The change of the regimes have not marked only the politic, but also a rupture in Brazilian intelligence, mainly in the humanities: from apologetic studies for the monarchy and for the colonial past that functioned as legitimizers of the imperial state, to the republican agendas, with the intention of foster citizenship nationality among the population. This change, however, was not abrupt, but gradual, accompanied by the permanence of political influences and republican administrative control of the same elites that made up an aristocracy of the Empire. We will investigate how the pensions of the political scene and the ideological tendencies of the members of the Institute allows to read in their narratives of the Magazine.

    Neste trabalho buscaremos investigar os posicionamentos políticos dos historiadores do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro que se fazem perceber nas publicações da Revista Trimensal do Instituto, precisamente nas edições dos anos que se seguiram à Proclamação da República (1889). Para tanto, tomaremos como fontes as edições da Revista no lapso temporal que cobre os anos de 1888, ano anterior à Proclamação, a 1891, contemplando quatro anos de publicações regulares. A mudança dos regimes marcou não somente uma transição política, mas também uma ruptura na intelligentsia brasileira, sobretudo nas ciências humanas: de estudos apologéticos à monarquia e ao passado colonial que funcionavam como legitimadores do Estado imperial, às pautas republicanas, com o intuito de fomentar uma nacionalidade cidadã entre a população. Esta mudança, porém, não foi brusca, mas gradativa, acompanhada pela permanência da influência política e do controle administrativo republicano das mesmas elites que compunham a aristocracia do Império.

    Averiguaremos como as tensões do cenário político e tendências ideológicas dos membros do Instituto se permitem ler em suas narrativas na Revista.
