    Se analiza la correspondencia epistolar mantenida en 1823 entre San Martín y O‟Higgins, utilizando instrumentos conceptuales de la Historia de las emociones. Se concluye que la experiencia acaecida ese año demandó la utilización de un discurso emocional cuyo objetivo fue la planificación de estrategias de apoyo financiero. Este discurso fue efectivo en cuanto el acervo cultural de ambos les permitía y les obligaba a sentir empatía. El miedo experimentado a raíz de las abdicaciones, la inestabilidad económica y la persecución caudillista los motivó a utilizar esta emoción como un recurso para desplazarse a un contexto de mayor seguridad.

    In the present study, we will analyze the epistolary correspondence maintained in 1823 between Don José de San Martín and Bernardo O‟Higgins, using conceptual instruments of the History of Emotions. It is concluded that the experience that occurred in that period demanded the use of an emotional discourse whose objective was the planning of financial support strategies. This speech was effective as the cultural heritage of both allowed them and forced them to feel empathy. The fear experienced as a result of the abdications, the economic instability and the caudillist persecution motivated them to use this emotion as a resource to move to a context of greater security
