  • Resumen
    • Le chevalier Bérinus, a 14th century novel, has been printed four times in the 16th century by some printers/booksellers settled in Neuve-Notre-Dame Street in the heart of Paris. It was established that the first edition was that of Jehan Janot (1521). But now, a new examination of typographic characters and woodcuts used in known copies changes the chronological order of the four publications: the first edition would be that of Jean Trepperel’s widow; then, the neatly finished edition by Jehan Janot; Alain Lotrian in 1540; John Bonfons after 1543. This study aims to highlight the importance of the material bibliography in order to give meaningful conclusions on the editorial policy in the trades of the Parisian book in the 16th century.
