Resumen
- The accumulation of thousands of terrapins' shells and bones (Mauremys leprosa and Emys orbicularis) in one pit from the Chalcolithic site of Camino de las Yeseras (Madrid, Spain) was superficially consolidated and retrieved as a block to avoid the pieces collapse. A preliminary study presented identification of species and environmental interpretation. We present the methodological procedure of the excavation taken place in the laboratory from the lower levels through superficial ones to prevent loosing those non-consolidated elements and identify anatomic skeletal connection to estimate individual numbers. The preservation of the assemblage and the taphonomical processes involved in this accumulation constitute an important methodological challenge.
