Resumen de Caracterización morfológica de granos de arena para la identificación de medios sedimentarios: utilidad de la técnica Malvern Morphologig3

Isidoro Campaña Lozano, Alfredo Pérez González, Alfonso Benito Calvo

  • The use of grain-shape as transport indicator has been usually limited by two problems: the unbiased and correct measurement of the grain morphology and the statistically representative sample quantities. Malvern MorphologiG3 is a new technique that allows quantification and morphological analysis of a population of particles that range between 2000 and 2 μm, being able to analyze more than 1000 particle per hour. This paper seeks to highlight the MorphologiG3 Malvern technique and evaluate its potential for the identification of sedimentary environments from the study of the morphology of sand. For this, we analyzed a set of samples of known sedimentary environments and compared the obtained results.
