• The outer wall of pollen grains is composed of an organic polymer called sporopollenin, and possesses microscopic structures and surface ornamentation. Due to these morphological characteristics it is possible to identify which plants created the pollen grains and this data can be used for paleovegetation reconstructions. The samples used in this work were collected from specimens at the ESALQ-USP (Piracicaba, Brazil) and the Vale Nature Reserve (Linhares, Brazil) herbaria. A total of 297 slides were analyzed, with pollen belonging to 28 families. After the establishment of this database, with morphological descriptions and digital images of the pollen grains, we intend to create a webpage that will be available to other research groups, assisting with the identification of fossil pollen material in studies aim at creating the vegetation reconstructions during the Late Quaternary.
