The lichenometric dating was developed in the fifties with a great success on siliceous rocks in cold environments uses. Nevertheless, the application of this technique on calcareous rocks in temperate climates has been practically non-existent. This work pretends to validate it by obtaining a growth curve of Aspicilia calcarea in the Submeseta Sur. For this purpose, two different methods have been used, both based on measuring the length of the thallu’s major axis developed over surfaces of known age. The final aim is its application in the dating of cryoclastic formations possibly associated to the Little Ice Age. Up to now, the outcomes show a high correlation between thallu’s size and its age, validating this method’s application in the Spanish Submeseta Sur region.
