Political debates on French television attract an increasingly smaller audence. Without disregarding the logic of programme makers, who are no doubt aware of the situation, should we not try to understand the reasons behind this new situation and take a fresh look at the social representations of those participating in the broadcasts, the conditions of the new interaction between programmes and audience and the cognitive processes upon which they place their values?
