Resumen de El autoritarismo como categoría del análisis político

Fabricio Forastelli

  • Despite being considered “elusive ‘ “controversial” and “residual”, the category of “authoritarianism” constantly emerges in political and cultural analysis to describe the characteristic features of Latin American regimes and societies in the 20th century. This article aims to introduce some general aspects of “theory of authoritarianism” and the way in which it is built into contemporary political theory, paying special attention to the work of Gino Germani. The “theory of authoritarianism” currently faces a certain deadlock due to causal, empirical and comparative approaches. In contrast to the aforementioned approaches, it is essential to focus on the discursive dimension in order to understand both the range of ideological alternatives shaped by this category and its role in the structure of political-ideological frontiers in democracy.
