    • T-2 to xin (3 mg/ kg b.w.) w as o ra ll y inocul ated to pregnant mice at 11 days of gestation to examin e th e effect o f T- 2 tox in o n th e deve lo pin g embryos. A I 24 ho urs afte r T-2 tox in-inoc ul at io n, mode ra te pykn osis o r ka ryo rrhex is was ge ne ra ll y observed in some layers of the central nervous system, caudal sclerotomic segment, caudal region of the tongue 10 pharyngeal- to laryngea l-mesenchyma, trachea and fac ial mesenchyma. These pyk noti c or karyorrhecti c nuclei were strongly stained by the modified TUN El method widely used fo r the in situ detection of apoptotic nu c le i a nd a lso s howed ultr astru c tur a l c ha nges charac teristic fo r apoptosis. This is the first report of mycotoxin-induced apoptosis in embryos.
