There is a growing degree of complexity in the terms used to refer to the multiple forms in existence in the theatrical world. Authors of work on the new trends in theory of theatre, like Jorge Dubatti, Hans Thies-Lehmann, Erika Fischer-Lichte, André Lepecki, Patrice Pavis or Roberto Fratini, observe that investigation into theatrical arts is currently undergoing movements of expansion, diversification and reformulation of its definitions. This article proposes critical reflexion on the present comprehension and definition of the term Contemporary Dance, thus encouraging the search for more appropriate forms allowing to re-contextualise this term, while suggesting the use of the “terminological metaphor” as an epistemological tool for study
