This article discusses work-related stress and identifi es common stresses reported by Institution members carrying out diff erent roles in a design offi ce. While the article concentrates on roles in a design offi ce, many of the stresses and methods of alleviating stress will also be applicable to engineers working in other roles.
It is important that members are aware of the factors that may lead to work-related stress in order to recognise the signs and symptoms in themselves and others, and to be able to put in place eff ective measures to alleviate problems.
