This Afterword does not seek to contest Ran Hirschl and Ayelet Shachar’s account of spatial statism. It rather argues that although public power remains in many ways untouched by the ever-changing world states are embedded in, counternarratives can also be identified. Looking toward urban spaces as well as the regulation of data and online spaces, I illustrate that a complementary story of state power can also be told. The challenge is to make sense of the fact that state power is both changing and not changing at the same time.
