    El 30 de junio la Unión Europea Occidental (UEO) deja oficialmente de existir, con tal motivo este artículo aborda su origen, evolución y papel en la transformación de las relaciones de seguridad y defensa europea desde la Segunda Guerra Mundial hasta nuestros días. La UEO llevó a cabo un proceso histórico lleno de iniciativas y acuerdos que hicieron posible la creación de un instrumento militar al servicio de la UE para la expresión de su Política Común de Seguridad y Defensa.

    In June the thirtieth the Western European Union (WEU) will cease to exist, with this motive the article carries out a study about its origins, evolution and role on the transformation of the European security panorama since the end of the Second Great War up today. The WEU led a historical process, characterized by a number of initiatives and agreements, focussed towards affording the EU a military capacity force for the expression of its Common Security and Defence Policy.
