    El debate sobre el tipo de arte, antiguo o contemporáneo, que debía integrar el nuevo Museo de Bellas Artes fue representativo, a las puertas del siglo XX, de las tensiones (no sólo culturales) existentes en Bilbao durante los años de su mayor transformación. Se estudian aquí las vicisitudes de la constitución de esa colección artística.

    The debate about the type of art, antique or contemporary, that should be included in the new Fine Arts Museum was representative of the tensions (not only cultural) existing in Bilbao on the eve of the XX century, during the years of its greatest transformation. The vicissitudes of the establishment of that artistic collection are studied here.
