Resumen de Telépolis y las ciudades soñadas

  Las ciudades están ubicadas en un territorio y circundadas por un entorno natural. Los edificios, las plazas y las calles se construyeron sobre el suelo y sus cimientos están bajo tierra, para que puedan sostener las casas, los monumentos y la vida ciudadana. Las relaciones humanas están basadas en la vecindad y la proximidad, con todas las ventajas (y conflictos) que de ello se derivan.

  En los nuevos lugares virtuales también es posible trabajar, comprar, vender leer, entretenerse, pasear y conversar. Llamo Telépolis a esta ciudad imaginaria. Podrá parecer que Telépolis es un sueño, si no una pesadilla, pero a mi modo de ver las hipótesis de Telépolis y el Tercer Entorno permiten comprender, interpretar e incluso explicar muchos de los grandes cambios que las nuevas tecnologías de la información y las telecomunicaciones están suscitando en las sociedades contemporáneas. Trataré de imaginar lo que puede ser un Bilbao telepolitano, no solo metropolitano.

  Hiriak lurralde batean daude kokatuta eta euren berezko ingurunea dute. Etxeak, plazak eta kaleak lurraren gainean egin ziren eta euren zimenduak lurpean daude, hartara etxe, monumentu eta hiriko eguneroko jardunari eutsi ahal izateko. Giza harremanen oinarriak auzotartasuna eta hurbiltasuna dira, horrek dakartzan on-gaitz guztiekin.

  Toki birtual berrietan ere badago lan egin, erosketak egin, liburuak saldu, entretenitu, paseatu eta solasean aritzerik. Telepolia deitzen diot irudipenezko hiri honi. Telepolia ametsa dela (amets gaiztoa ez denean) pentsa liteke, baina begitantzen zait Telepoliaren eta Hirugarren ingurunearen hipotesiek informazio eta telekomunikazioaren teknologi berrien eraginez gaur egungo gizarteetan gertatzen diren aldaketak ulertzeko bidea ematen dutela. Saiatuko naiz imajinatzen zer izango litzatekeen Bilbo telepolitanoa, metropolitanoaz gain.

  Cities are situated on a territory and surrounded by a natural environment. The buildings, squares and streets are built on the ground and their foundations reach beneath the earth, so that they can support houses, monuments and the activities of the citizens. Human relations are based on the neighbourhood and proximity, with all of the advantages (and conflicts) deriving from this.

  In the new virtual places it is also possible to work, buy, sell, read, find entertainment, stroll about and converse. I call this imaginary city Teleopolis. It might seem that Teleopolis is a dream, if not a nightmare, but in my understanding the hypotheses of Teleopolis and the Third Environment make it possible to understand, interpret and even explain many of the great changes that the new technologies of the computer and telecommunications are bringing about in contemporary societies. I will attempt to imagine what a telepolitan, not merely metropolitan, Bilbao might be like.
