    La verdadera transformación de Bilbao y su entorno no se produce cuando se está realizando con luces y con sombras, la transición de la sociedad industrial a la postindustrial. Se produce hace un siglo, cuando la Margen Izquierda se convirtió en escenario de la ubicación de la industria que permitió a Bilbao dominar la economía española durante decenio de comienzos del siglo XX. Mi comunicación trata de estudiar la permanencia y la ruptura de la estructura social nacida de ese proceso económico.

    The true transformation of Bilbao and its surroundings does not occur when the transition, with its highlights and shadows, is in progress from an industrial to a postindustrial city. It happened a century ago, when the Left Bank became the scenario for the location of the industry that enabled Bilbao to dominate the Spanish economy during the first decade of the XX century. My paper aims to study the permanency and the rupture of the social structure that was born from this economic process.

    Bilbo eta haren inguruaren benetako itxuraldaketa ez zen gertatu gizarte industrialetik industriosteko gizarterako transizioan; duela mende bat gertatu zen, hain zuzen ere industria ezkerraldean kokatu zenean; izan ere, horri esker, XX. mendean, Bilbok hamarkada askotan agindu zuen Espainiako ekonomian. Nire komunikazioan ekonomiako prozesu horretatik sortu zen gizarte-egiturak nola iraun zuen eta nola desegin zen aztertzen saiatuko naiz.
