Resumen de Caracterización geoquímica de cambios paleoceanográficos en el mar de alborán durante los estadios isotópicos 6 y 7

B. González Mora, Francisco Javier Sierro Sánchez, José Abel Flores Villarejo

  • Samples from the Alboran Sea (Western Mediterranean) were studied in order to characterize paleoceanographic changes between the last 250-150 kyr from a geochemical point of view. XRF measurements were carried out at a 1cm-resolution and several changes at an astronomical time scale were observed in Si/Al, Si/Si+K and Ti/Ca, suggesting more river discharge and less wind stress during warmer substages. Organic rich layers were characterized by high biogenic barium and low Si/Al content, which is interpreted as increasing surface productivity and more river discharge due to more abundant precipitations. Two Heinrich events were recognized in the studied interval, which present high biogenic barium and also high Si/Al and Si/Si+K content, suggesting high surface productivity and stronger wind stress during both periods
