The occupation of one place as a prehistoric settlement is not by chance, but a conscious choice, made by hunter-gatherers in order to their territory exploitation patterns. Several factors have an influence on this decision: topographic ones (easily accessible, habitability, vegetation, etc.), economic ones (resources availability, territoral control, etc.) and symbolic ones. One of the most important factors is potential insolation, because of its influence in site habitability conditions. In this study case, we emphasize the different seasonal insolation among several sites form the Asón river valley (Cantabria, Spain), and we propose some possible repercussions of this differences in the territory exploitation patterns.
