The spatio-temporal correlations, between neighbouring outcrops, can utilize the sedimentary sequences and the eroded coastal regions as a new means of connecting marine high stand events. In the area of the Strait of Gibraltar, Morphotectonic units (MTU) have been used in correlations of hundreds of thousands of years, such as the great morphotectonic assemblages of the Rock of Gibraltar (Europa Point) and the Gebel Musa (Uta El Kazarin) of under 250 ky. The shorter marine events, lasting only a few thousand years, must be treated more cautiously although they can equally be used as elements for correlation, as we are attempting to do with the higher eustatic levels of the substadial 5e (130 to 110 ky) in the Mediterranean.
