The Darro River was basically incised in the conglomerates of the Alhambra Formation, during Quaternary times, with an incision rate of 0.2-0.4 mm/year. San Pedro escarpment is a cliff 65 m high which is placed 24 m from the Alhambra wall-palace. The genesis of this cliff is a combination of erosion at the external part of a meander and landslides probably induced by recent tectonic movements of the active normal faults which outcrops in the escarpment. Other key factors in the formation of this escarpment are the floods of the Darro River which occur with a return period of 20 years and a peak discharge of 90 m3/s
