  Over the last few years, chestnut production has been increasing, both nationally and worldwide, as well as the area occupied by chestnut plantation and its productivity, with the Bragança region in Portugal being a major regions contributing to national production. In this sense, considering the evolution of the national and international chestnut sector, the formation of the price as a function of the price and cost drivers of agrifood products, this study aims to analyze the determinants of the cashew price in Portugal, for the from 1991 to 2016, using the ordinary least squares method (OLS). The results indicate that the price of Portuguese chestnut is negatively influenced by the quantity of the good itself and positively influenced by the yield, gross value added of the Portuguese chestnut and the price of Italian chestnut

  Ao longo dos últimos anos a produção de castanha tem vindo a aumentar, quer a nível nacional, quer a nível mundial, bem como a área ocupada com a plantação de castanheiros e a respetiva produtividade, sendo a região de Bragança, em Portugal, uma principais regiões contributivas para a produção nacional. Neste sentido, considerando a evolução do setor da castanha nível nacional e internacional, a formação do preço em função dos fatores impulsionadores de preços e custos dos produtos agroalimentares, o presente estudo tem como finalidade analisar os determinantes do preço da castanha em Portugal, para o período de 1991 a 2016, recorrendo ao método dos mínimos quadrados ordinários (MQO). Os resultados indicam que o preço da castanha em Portugal é influenciado negativamente pela quantidade e positivamente influenciado pelo rendimento, valor acrescentado bruto do setor da castanha portuguesa e preço da castanha italiana.
