Up to date, the only known bovini from the Upper Pliocene of Spain was Leptobos elatus, a species represented in the sites ofVillarroya (La Rioja) and Huelago-carretera (Granada). The discovery of Fonelas P-1, a new Upper Villafranchian site located in the Guadix Baza Basin (Granada, Spain) add a new bovid to the fossil record of the Iberian Peninsula: Leptobos etruscus. The anatomical analysis of this fossils shows a combination of dental characters that allows to set up the hypothesis that Leptobos furtivus Duvernois Ft Guerin, 1989 represents a young synonim of Leptobos etruscus. Further investigations will be lead up to evaluate the intraspecific variability between the tribe Bovini.
