  • Resumen
    • Data from structural analysis and drill-cores indicate an intimate relationship between extensional structures, magmatism and Fe-Ba-Zn-Ag mineralisations occurring during the Upper Tortonian-Early Messinian in the Vera basin (SE Spain). Extensional ¡¡strie faults truncate Tortonian to early Messinian sediments and detach in a low-angle detachment between the metamorphic basement and the Tortonian sedimentary cover of the Vera basin. The fault rocks together with the aforementioned sediments are strongly mineralised. Consequently, the faults constituted conduits for the mineralising fluids which produced the stratiform mineral deposits, which both are truncated and locally seal the tilting related with extension. The presence of nearby Uppermost-Tortonian vulcano-sedimentary layers, perforated by drill-cores, confirms the activity of calco-alcaline vulcanism coeval to extension. The temporal and spatial coincidence of these processes suggests a genetic link between extension, calco-alcaline vulcanism and Fe-Ba-Zn-Ag mineralisations.
