Resumen de Importancia de la Vitamina D en la población gestante española

  El mayor conocimiento actual de los efectos de la vitamina D en la mayoría de órganos del cuerpo humano hace que se adquiera una nueva dimensión de estudio e investigación clínica encaminada a mejorar la salud global de la mujer. En España hay un porcentaje significativo de personas con niveles inadecuados de vitamina D, especialmente entre mujeres gestantes. En el embarazo unos niveles deficitarios o inadecuados se asocian con complicaciones maternas (preeclampsia, parto prematuro, anemia, mayor riesgo de diabetes gestacional) y complicaciones fetales y neonatales (bajo peso al nacer, crecimiento intrauterino restringido, infecciones de vías respiratorias, mayor número de alergias). Por ello, se recomienda hacer cribado de niveles séricos de vitamina D y tratar únicamente si existe deficiencia o insuficiencia.

  En el caso de gestantes de riesgo está claro el beneficio de tratarlas directamente.

  The increased current knowledge on the effects of the vitamin D in the majority of organs of the human body makes that it acquires a new dimension in the study and clinical research aimed at improving the overall health of women. In Spain there is a significant percentage of individuals with inadequate levels of vitamin D, especially among pregnant women. During pregnancy, deficient levels of vitamin D are associated with maternal complications (pre-eclampsia, preterm birth, anemia and increased risk of gestational diabetes) and in fetus and newborn (low weight at birth, restricted intrauterine growth, respiratory tract infections, increased number of allergies). For this reason, it is recommended to determine blood levels of vitamin D and treat those pregnant women with inadequate or deficiency levels. In the case of highrisk pregnant ones, the benefit of the treatment is clearly indicated.
