  • The Nerja Cave includes 3 areas of archaeological excavation in different karstic chambers near its entrance, the Sala del Vestibulo, Sala de la Mina and Sala de la Torca. Their archaeological record includes Upper Pleistocene to the Holocene chronocultural units. A sedimentary core has been extracted from the Sala de la Torca. The geochemical and sedimentological analysis of the recovered sedimentary record evidences the presence of runoff processes that transported and accumulated allochthonous water and sediments in the Sala de la Torca. The observed geochemical and sedimentary facies variations indicate that changes in the hydrological regime and the human frequentation of the cavity happened during the Upper Pleistocene and the Holocene.
