Research in the large ice masses of the polar caps has undergone an enormous development during the last sixty years.Among the many recent achievements are the development of digital image recording and analysis and their relation to the systematic study of ice cores. One of these image records, the EDML LS visual stratigraphy record, is the subject of our current study. This work combines stratigraphic image processing and analysis with the continuous flow analysis of atmospheric dust. Thereby we have obtain a holistic picture, on multiple scales, of the structure of ice masses, which can be related to climate change of the last 150,000 years.
