    • Antequera is home to one of the most important megalithic sites in Europe. Previous work has suggested a possible connection between seismic events and megalith-building in the region, as well as a possible awareness of the seismic risks on the part of the megalith-builders. In this paper we present an over view of this problem. In megalithic monuments, the dynamic loads generated by the seismic waves during an earthquake can produce oscillations between the orthostats. These oscillations can cause orthostats to hit each to other, leading to the breakage of corners when they hit the adjacent block. These broken corners (dipping broken corners) can be observed in the dolmens of Menga and Viera. Applying geological structural analysis to these deformations, we obtain an averageorientation of movement of the substrate N010ºE for both dolmens. For this reason, we interpret the seismic deformation as a possible origin of these deformations.
